Constructing a flagstone patio Austin Texas

Monday, January 19th, 2009

There are several different methods to construct a masonry patio.  The base construction is what sets most apart.  Either you put a concrete base or use crushed limestine (base).  The later being the cheapest method.  Flagstone is sold by the ton and typically cost anywhere from $200-$265 per ton with there being a lot of exceptions.  Average price per square foot of construction typically ranges from $17-$23.     The type of soil your constructing the patio on is the primary factor that determines the type of construction.   Concrete is generally used in areas where the soils are more expansive while base  (crushed limestone)  works well on rocky more solid soils.

Most flagstone is laid in a two step process.  First the base is constructed.  Second, the flagstone is laid on top of a one half to three quarter inches of masonry.  Then after curing for 24 hours the grout is installed in the joints and sponged off after it becomes semi dried.   The most common materials used in Austin patios is limestone, Oklahoma and Arizona flagstones.  There are many more but these seem to be the most requested due to availability and cost factors.

Austin Water Features

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

As one of Austins top water feature installers we come to the table with years of experience.  We install both formal and natural features.  We use top of the line pumps, skimmers, biofalls and liners.  Austin naturally has lots of sloping properties and we try and use this to our advantage often incorporating the slope into the feature design.  Austin area water feature construction can be slightly more challenging due to the rocky terrain.  We have seen it all.  Water feature construction is different on each job.  Give us a call for a free estimate if you live in one of the following towns-  Roundrock, Leander, Cedar Park, Lakeway, Westlake, Georgetown, Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, New Braunfels or Manor.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Best time for planting trees

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

We install trees year round but now is the best.  If your looking at installing larger specimens this is definitely the best.  Austin has such intense heat that if you plant to late in the season you put added stress on the plant.  With proper irrigation and soil amendments this isn’t that big of an issue but never the less you should get trees in during the cooler months.
