Decks, Pergolas & Patio Covers

In Central Texas, an outdoor space without shade is virtually unusable for half the year. At Anderson Landscapes, we view carpentry as the architecture of the outdoors. Decks, pergolas, and patio covers play a major role in how homeowners use and enjoy their outdoor space.

These structures provide shade, comfort, and defined areas for gathering while adding long-term value to the home. As experienced deck contractors in Austin, our focus goes beyond basic construction. We design custom solutions that integrate flawlessly with your home’s existing roofline and architectural style.

Custom Decks Built for Everyday Living

A well-designed deck transforms your backyard into an extension of your indoor living space. The Texas Hill Country is defined by its slopes. If your backyard has a steep drop-off, a multi-level deck is the best way to reclaim usable space. We are Austin deck builders known for structural integrity. Whether the goal is entertaining, relaxing, or creating a smooth transition from indoors to outdoors, decks are designed with layout, safety, and durability in mind.

We work with wood and composite decking options based on your preferences, maintenance expectations, and budget. From framing and footing placement to railing design and finish materials, each element is planned to ensure long-term performance.

Pergolas for Style & Function

A custom pergola is the perfect blend of form and function. As experienced pergola builders, we design structures that complement the home rather than overpower it. A pergola creates usable outdoor space during Texas summers by blocking 30-50% of direct sun while maintaining airflow. They keep you cool without making you feel enclosed.

We use heavy-timber headers and notched rafters, providing robust durability against high winds. We space the rafters based on your sun exposure to get the right mix of light and shade.

Patio Covers

For homeowners seeking complete protection from the rain and intense sun, a solid patio cover is the answer. Our structures feel like a natural part of your home, never an afterthought. We match your original architecture so perfectly that every addition feels like part of the original home.

As a premier pergola contractor and patio cover specialist, we integrate recessed lighting, fans, and heaters to create a classic 4-season space. Most homeowners enhance their patio covers with outdoor cooking areas, fire features, and comfortable furnishings for a true outdoor living room.

What sets Anderson Landscapes apart from other deck contractors in Travis, Williamson & Burnet County is our holistic approach, education and Hill Country experience. Maintenance Tips

To know if your cedar or natural wood deck needs sealing, sprinkle water on it. If it beads up, you are good. If it soaks in immediately, it is time to clean and re-seal to protect against UV graying and rot.

Trim plants away from structures to promote airflow and prevent moisture buildup, checking that vines are not trapping water against posts. Clear debris between deck boards regularly and ensure water drains away from footings after rain.

Texas humidity causes wood to shift. Once a year, tighten any loose lag bolts or fasteners to keep your structure stable and safe.

While composite decks are low-maintenance, pollen and dust can accumulate. Wash your deck twice a year with mild soap and water (and a soft brush) to keep it looking brand new. Avoid harsh chemicals that can bleach the color.

Even treated wood can weaken over time. Keep mulch and soil away from post bases. Check ground-contact points annually for mud tubes or soft spots to keep termites at bay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit for a pergola or deck?

Every municipality in every zip code has different rules for what requires a permit and what does not. In some areas it depends on height from the soil or if it is an egress from the home. In others it depends if it is attached to home as an egress exit or exceeds 200 sqft. No matter the area or county you live in, you can be assured that Anderson Landscape is experienced in helping you evaluate your property survey and CC&R guidelines so you will know if you’ll need a permit or not and they are experienced to help.

What materials work best for decks and pergolas in Central Texas?

Many choose composite wood for easy care, heat resistance and 30-50 year longevity while cedar, fir and Ipe are excellent natural hardwoods that work well for decks and pergolas due to their natural rot resistance and durability in our climate.

What is the difference between a pergola and a patio cover?

Pergolas have open or slatted roofs providing partial shade and airflow, while patio covers also often referred to as gazebos, have solid roofs offering complete sun/moisture top protection. Choosing a pergola for style with filtered sunlight is often best next to a homes windows where filtered light helps both the patio experience but also the interior rooms light exposure inside the house as well.  A patio cover is best for full year-round sun and moisture coverage over a patio and the homeowner plans for the patio furniture to be roughly 70% weather resistant from all moisture.

Is composite decking worth the extra cost?

For most $500k+ properties, composite is the superior choice. It offers a 25-50-year lifespan without the hassle of staining or painting, delivering long-term value through durability and convenience.

Can you build a patio cover that matches my house roof?

Yes, it is a huge benefit of using Anderson Landscape. We utilize 3D design software design and integrate textures and colors of materials for easy visualizations. These easily fly through HOA and ACC review procedures and remove the ambiguity of what a project will look like when it’s finished. As the deck builders Georgetown, TX homeowners trust, we prioritize efficiency without cutting corners.
